7 Arrested at Cockfight

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles police officers interrupted a cockfight in Pacoima and arrested six adults and one juvenile on November 24, 2007.

The incident unfolded just before 10:30 A.M.,  after officers received a complaint of a cockfight in progress in the 11500 block of Sproule Avenue.  When the officers got to the location, a group of men tried to flee by jumping over a ten-foot wall.  After a brief chase, officers were able to detain seven suspects, including a juvenile.

The Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACTF) responded to the location and found five injured and three dead roosters.  They also confiscated  $2,300.00 from the suspects that were in custody.

It is a misdemeanor to attend a cockfight.

All seven suspects were charged with being a spectator at the scene of a cockfight.

The ACTF investigates human cruelty against animals and is made up of Los Angeles police officers and detectives, animal service officers from the Department of Animal Services and Deputy City Attorney’s from the LA City Attorney’s Office.

Reports of animal cruelty can be reported to the ACTF at 213-847-1417.

Why do people do this? Watching to male chickens tear away at each other, aside from disgusting, is rather pointless. Especially if one of them is your own. Maybe these people, in additional to the legal punishment, should be required to attend therapy.

I understand there are a lot of dead chickens at El Pollo Loco.

Hey now...it is a cultural thing. I hear recruitment is going to start targeting the fights as a way to increase applicants.

I did not know know that cocks fighting is illegal. Good to know

pdhog, what a racist remark! I hope you are not an officer because if you are then you don't deserve to wear the blue uniform of an LAPD officer. It's cops like you that are guilty of racial profiling and can lead the department to face risk management issues and ultimately the extension of the consent decree. You just don't learn, do you?

Mia,
what was racist about it? I don't get out of it what you got...help me understand.

Mia, as a Hispanic male, I do not find phdog's remark racist at all, I find it true and somewhat humerous! Can you give me another race or culture that practices cock fighting other than mine??? NO you can not! So when these idiots stop the unnessesary traditions like cock fighting then we will not be used as a punch line to joke as often.
Lighten up on your accusations, just because some one tells a "joke" that doesn't make them a racist! That you are so hyper sensative entertains me though.

Subpoena master, you sound like you would be the perfect recruit! You have outstanding knowledge of the law, as well as a firm grasp on the English language.

Hey Recruitment, get this man an application right away. I smell a captain in the making.

Mia,

It's people like you who don't have the life experience to know that the Hog was probably just making a joke, get over it mija.

As for the Consent Decree (CD), it's getting extended anyway, so don't get your panties all wet. There's too much money at stake for it to go away. The CD is employing hundreds of people.

Plus the cop-pogues down at CRID, AD, PSB, et al, don't want it to go away either. Jeez, they might lose their Monday to Friday gig and may have to go back to patrol. Yikes!!!

Once an auditor, always an auditor.

Mia...

Whoopie Goldberg said in support of Michael Vick and his brutal dog fighting ring that it is a "cultural thing." So why do you consider it a racist remark for PDhog to make such a post? It's my understanding that cockfighting is very popular in Latin American Countries....

People are so quick to use the "R" word...

Culture and race are two different words with two different meanings. There are over a million United States Citizens of many races living in Mexico alone. Central and South American cultures do have a history of this "sport." The specific races of the people involved could be almost any.
