Los Angeles: The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s appointment of Commissioner Alan Skobin for a second term on the Los Angeles Police Commission, the five-member panel that oversees the Los Angeles Police Department. Commissioner Skobin was first appointed to the Police Commission by Mayor James Hahn in 2003, and was the only Police Commissioner to be retained by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in 2005. Each Commissioner may serve up to two, five-year terms, upon City Council approval.
In his first five-year term, Commissioner Skobin has been instrumental in numerous enhancements to the LAPD, and the LAPD’s service to the community. Most recently, after learning that the ASTRO radios that the officers carry, were in failing condition, Commissioner Skobin recognized the serious officer and community safety issue and immediately began the political and budgetary process to replace all radios.
"Commissioner Skobin is a dedicated, effective leader for our police department and our City," Mayor Villaraigosa said. "He is committed to the public safety of every Angeleno and he understands the importance of keeping Los Angeles safe and secure for future generations. I look forward to continue working with him to protect our neighborhoods and strengthen our police force."
Police Commission President Anthony Pacheco stated, “I am more than pleased to be serving with someone like Commissioner Skobin. His renewal is confirmation that the members of City Council also agree that he is an outstanding Police Commissioner.”
Police Chief William Bratton added, “Commissioner Skobin brings a great deal of experience and passion to the Police Commission. He is extremely dedicated to the men and women of this Department and is always looking for ways to improve our service to the people of Los Angeles.”
Congrats Comm Skobin.

Thank you! Alan is the only competent voice on the commission who actually consideres the coppers side of issues and is not on the board to make a name for himself. Congratulations Commissioner Skobin and thanks for your hard work!

Congrats to Commish Skobin!
He truly is one of a kind in the (anti) Police Commission.
Thank GOD we have at least one ally within that crew.
Skobin actually gets things done that benefit the street cops. He cares more about us than the brass.
He works for free, he's a reserve in LASD and he goes on ride-a-longs and operations daily with the LAPD.
What staff member does that? NONE, except for Alan.
Now that's a true leader!
PS: He even buys breakfast for the grunts. Thanks boss.

See what is happening in Chicago??? The Governor is now offering state troopers and guardsmen to help them combat crime... We need to do something here before we get bit in the rear. Now, we have the consent decree that we have to adhere to, which makes every arrest at least a two hour commitment. Now, above all of that, we have to book every single juvenile arrest, which is a four hour commitment at best. How in the world are you hamstringing patrol offices, yet expect them to enforce these laws??? That is about stupid! Now, you can't cite and release for Marijuana less than an ounce, you have to book the juvenile and wait for hours for a parent to arrive and deal with the yongster... With night watch holding maybe 350 officers on the street AT BEST.... YOU ARE SIMPLY OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!! Look at what you are tasking these people with doing. The last arrest I was involved in took four hours to deal with because he had to be transported to a contract hoslpital for a knee injury from years earlier, in order for him to be booked at all... Los Angeles is out of their mind if they think that we are going to control anything!!!!!

Commissioner Skobin
Congratulations on your selection to another five year term to the Los Angeles Police Commission.
For those of you who have not met Commissioner Skobin, he is everything "NY State of mind" wrote and more. It is unfortunate that so much of your contributions to this City, this Department and especially the "street cop" will remain unknown simply due to the nature of your responsibilities. There is a lot of credit due that you will never receive but it is still very much appreciated.
All the best to you sir.
