What a great way to end the year for recruit class 7-11. Today December 30, 2011, 39 new police officers marched across the Los Angeles Police Academy field. With the weather in the mid-seventies and the sun reflecting off their uniform hat brim, the newly recruited police officers will bring in the New Year with a smile on their faces.
Chief Charlie Beck gave the new officers an example of how to be a great police officer. He gave honor to Lieutenant II Joseph McWilliams from Metropolitan Division who will be retiring in the next few days. Chief Beck stated, “It’s not what you learned in the police academy that makes you great police officers, it’s what type of character you have before you come in and Lieutenant McWilliams is a fine example of what character is.” Chief Beck made a promise to the officers stating, “I promise if you protect and serve the City of Los Angeles, I will protect and serve you.” Happy New Year’s class 7-11.

Congratulations to recruit class 7-11 of the LAPD. I wish you all the best in your new career in the finest police department.
