- Police Chief Charlie Beck informed the Police Commission the City continues with itsyear-long downward crime trend.
- The Inspector General’s report, dated November 14, 2012, relative to the quarterly use of force report for the second quarter of 2012, was approved. Inspector General Alexander Bustamante stated this report examined incidence where a high number of rounds were fired which represented a small number of Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) cases. He said the total number of OIS is down to a five year low and he believed the recommendations made to the Department are a substantial step forward. Inspector General Bustamante completed his comments by saying his office will continue to monitor the situation going forward.
- The Department’s report, dated November 8, 2012, relative to the approval of the first amendment to contract no. C-119020 with Celplan Technologies, Inc. for continued maintenance to the Foothill Area wireless camera surveillance was approved and transmitted to the Mayor and City Council.
- The Department’s report, dated November 8, 2012, relative to the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) monthly report for September 2012, as given by Captain William Hayes, was approved and transmitted to the City Council. Captain Hayes stated the Department is doing more internal exams as opposed to outsourcing them to independent contractors. He added the backlog has been significantly reduced since the original backlog in 2008 with most cases being examined within 90-120 days. Captain Hayes completed his comments by saying the number of positions the unit needs has been prioritized in the budget.
- The Department’s report, dated November 8, 2012, relative to the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) quarterly report – 3rd quarter 2012, was approved and transmitted to the City Council.
