You don't need to justify what you did because it was a positive thing either way, yes you could have donated it our memorial fund...the popular thing. But, you did the unpopular thing and that took guts, There aren't many opportunities out there for minorities in poor sections of the city and naturally our youth get sucked into gangs. I am a seventeen year vet of the LAPD and have never forgotten my dealings with troubled youth in Southeast Watts and working south bureau, For some they wanted change but they had no father. I remember a young 12 year old who had potential but at risk (blood gang). This gang 2 years later initiated him by making him pull the trigger
