« Man Shot and Killed in West Los Angeles | Main | Officer-Involved Shooting Occurs in Harbor »

One way to fix this constant payout of taxpayer funds to officers that prevail in lawsuits against their commanding officers is a simple one.

Any commanding officer who is found to have violated the law INTENTIONALLY in dealing with a subordinate, causing the city to pay millions of dollars, should be fired as they proved they are incompetent to fulfill the demands of the position. Let them prove otherwise.

As it is now, it seems that the more the city pays out, the higher they climb on the promotion ladder. Pathetic.

LAPD needs severe change at the top. Dear Mayor Garcetti pick a new police commission and select people who aren't part of the good ole boys network. Family members and friends being promoted? It does exist!

Both you guys are spot on. The LAPD is completely broken, from the rank of LT and up, the odds are stacked, that most in those billets are agonizingly incompetent. And the most of those demonstrably incompetent managers, and offenders are promoted, and moved around, so they can "check the boxes" in their rise to the command-staff level. The LAPD NEEDS a Chief who is tough enough to make sweeping changes and at the top, and STOP the upward progression of all these megalomaniacs who have been promoted, far beyond their usefulness or abilities. Most of these "managers" only see the shinny items on their lapels, and believe the BIO's they wrote about themselves.
And the Police Commission? After Mr. Skobin left, they is not one person on that commission, who has even an ounce of intellectual honesty. That commission needs a total revamping!
Change is drastically needed, but I fear that Garcetti doesn't posses the intestinal fortitude, or foresight to make those sweeping changes.
So I predict the status quo of mediocrity to remain infected at the mid level, upper management and top of the LAPD.
