|Los Angeles: Today, an LAPD officer died from his injuries caused by a traffic collision in the City of Los Angeles. The accident also injured a second Los Angeles Police Officer.
Around 3:46 a.m., Harbor Division Officer, Roberto C. Sanchez and his partner were following a traffic violator when an SUV collided with their patrol car at Anaheim Street and Senator Street in the Harbor City Area.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported Officer Sanchez and his partner to a local hospital. Officer Sanchez’ partner is expected to survive his injuries.
The driver of the SUV involved in the traffic collision fled the scene. Further investigation identified a person who is believed to be associated with the incident. That individual has been located and detained as a person of interest and is being interrogated by detectives.
Officer Sanchez leaves behind a wife, and both of his parents. Officer Sanchez was a 6 year veteran of the Department. His past assignments include: West Los Angeles Area, Newton Area and Harbor Area.
“In this difficult time for the Los Angeles Police Department, sorrow comes to us by the tragic loss of our brother. Police Officer Roberto Sanchez was killed this morning in a traffic collision in the Harbor area while on duty. His surviving partner officer, remains hospitalized. He will need your prayers while he recovers and copes with the tragic loss of not only a partner, but a best friend. We shall never forget Roberto, who gave his life in the name of serving others. Together we will get through this as an LAPD family. Stay strong and continue looking after one another to keep each other safe.
