Commissioner President Matthew Johnson opened the meeting and a quorum was established. All Consent Agenda items were unanimously approved. Commissioner Sandra Figueroa-Villa wished Commissioner President Johnson a happy birthday and thanked him for all he has done for the police commission.
Chief Beck showed the police commission a First 5 California public service announcement. First 5 California partnered with Sgt. Emada Tingirides to share her story and how Talk. Read. Sing.® and being surrounded by the nurturing of strong women helped her get through a difficult childhood and become a force for good in her community. Chief Beck said the public service announcement portrays the LAPD in a great light with a great message. He thanked Sgt. Emada Tingirides and her husband for what they do for the City and the nation.
Chief Beck reported for the first time in a long time there were no homicides in the City this past weekend. Chief Beck reported there was an LAPD graduation this past Friday and a new class started yesterday. There are 9,895 sworn police officers, 2,700 civilian employees, about 400 LAPD Reserve officers, 372 specialist volunteers, 60 chaplains, and 7,410 LAPD Police Cadets. Chief Beck said the Twice A Citizen / LAPD Reserve Officer Reserve Banquet was held over the weekend and was well attended with 400 guests.
