Commissioner President Matt Johnson opened the meeting and a quorum was established. The meeting proceeded to the Consent Agenda Items, all of which (1A through 1B) were approved with no discussion.
The next item of business was the Report of the Chief of Police. Assistant Chief Michel Moore provided the report of the Chief of Police on behalf of Chief Beck. He reported on an off duty officer who was in a traffic accident and remains in critical condition. He had been out in the field for three months when this accident occurred. Assistant Chief Moore traveled to Washington D.C. on behalf of the Chief of Police, he met with FBI James B. Comey and other major city police Chief’s to give an analysis of crime. Director Comey wanted an overview analysis of each department’s relationship with the Bureau. Assistant Chief Moore reported the Los Angeles Police Department work hand and hand with the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Assistant Moore reported he and Assistant Chief Grimala attended a panel at the Getty House for Women Equality Day. There currently is 19% sworn females and 60% female civilians. The Department is working diligently to bring those numbers up.
Chief Moore reported there are 9,743 sworn officers, 2,772 civilian personnel, 7,859 cadets, 284 specialist reserves, and 410 volunteers and reserve specialists.
