Commissioner President Matt Johnson opened the meeting and a quorum was established. The meeting proceeded to the Consent Agenda Items, all of which (1A through 1H) were approved with no discussion.
The next item of business was the Report of the Chief of Police, Chief Beck reported deep sorrow in the passing of former Commissioner Stanley Sheinbaum and former Los Angeles County Supervisor Ed Edelman. He also reported on the reopening of Elysian Park Police Department this week. Wanted to touch on the subject of crime statistics, that the month of August last year, was the deadliest month. This year, August, was considerably safer than most months. There are currently 9,811 sworn officer’s, 2,748 civilian personnel (with 529 civilian vacancies), 425 reserve specialists, 284 specialist volunteers, 58 chaplains, and just over 8,000 cadets.
