Department’s Report, dated May 9, 2018, relative to Approval of Request for Proposals for Court Reporter Services for Los Angeles Police Department’s Professional Standards Bureau, Internal Affairs Group, as set forth. [BPC #18-0163] was approved.
Department’s Report, dated May 10, 2018, relative to the Request to Approve the Agreement between The City of Los Angeles and Westcor Environmental, Inc., to provide the Los Angeles Police Department with lead maintenance and mining services, as set forth. [BPC #18-0164] was approved.

Chief Beck reported he attended the LAPD graduation and USC graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 11.
Chief Beck reported he attended the “Twice a Citizen” Reserve Banquet on Saturday, May 12 – a ceremony honoring LAPD reserve officers. Author Michael Conner and actor Titus Welliver of Bosch, a television series based on LAPD detectives, were in attendance. Chief Beck recognized the passing of former LAPD Police Commissioner and Ethics Commission member Art Maddox.
Chief Beck reported on an officer-involved shooting, which occurred on Saturday, May 12 at approximately 1900 hours. Uniformed officers attempted to engage two male suspects standing at the 1400 block of 55th Street. The suspects were believed to be involved in gang activity. Upon approaching the suspects, one suspect ran while holding a pistol. Officers went in foot pursuit, culminating in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was not struck during the incident.
Chief Beck provided updated crime statistics. Chief Beck reported 10,046 sworn personnel, 2,942 civilian personnel, more than 400 reserve officers, and 1,800 cadets.
