Sunshine Kids Shine Bright

September 9, 2010 – With the LAPD Concert Band in full symphony, 24 children from the Sunshine Kids were sworn in as honorary police officers for the day.  The event, which was part of a week-long visit by Sunshine_kids_(46)_1 the children to Los Angeles, featured the roof-top swearing-in ceremony where the children were given gifts donated by the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union, the Los Angeles Police Reserve Foundation and the Universal City Sheraton.

Sunshine_kids_(15)_1 Once sworn in as police officers, the children jumped into the black and white vehicles with their reserve police officer partners and formed a convoy where they left the hotel with lights and sirens blaring. Their destination: Raleigh Studios on Melrose to visit the set and the stars of the TNT television series “The Closer.”



Sunshine_kids_(21)_1 The Sunshine Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Established in 1982, the organization provides positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The Sunshine Kids offer a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.  This is the fifth consecutive year the Department has participated and organized activities for the kids.
