Notes from the March 25, 2014 Weekly Police Commisson Meeting

• Police Commission President Steve Soboroff said next week’s meeting will be held in San Pedro and the Commission will present its goals for 2014-15 at that meeting.  He also said he attended the recruit graduation last Friday and added the Department needs more police officers, especially African-American and women officers.

• Assistant Chief Michel Moore stated the Department was grateful the officers at the scene of the Officer Involved Shooting in Hollywood were able to defend themselves and the officer who was injured is expected to recover.  Chief Moore also stated the recruit graduation included a class of 16 Detention Officers which was the first such class in several years.  He completed his comments by saying the Department’s Open Team and Women’s Running Team both won their division at the annual Baker to Vegas Relay Race.  

• The verbal presentation and update from the Commanding Officer and Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) representative regarding community initiated problem solving, crime strategies, and other programs and goals within the Southwest Area was given by Captain Paul Snell and Mr. Johnnie Raines.  Captain Snell informed the Board the Southwest C-PAB currently has 20 members and the Teen C-PAB has 30 members.  Mr. Raines stated there are four committees the Southwest C-PAB is involved in.  They include the hospitality committee, membership committee, blighted property committee, and the homeless committee.  

• The Department’s report, dated March 13, 2014, relative to the supplemental police account fourth quarterly report (October through December 2013), was approved.  The report was transmitted to the City Council and to the Office of the City Controller.

• The Department’s report, dated March 18, 2014, relative to the Operations-West Bureau timekeeping inspection (IAID No. 13-023), was approved.

• The Department’s report, dated March 14, 2014, relative to Operations-South Bureau gang enforcement detail command accountability performance audit (IAID No. 13-053), was approved.

• The Department’s report, dated March 14, 2014, relative to the Hollenbeck Area detective command accountability performance audit (IAID No. 13-053),

• The Department’s report, dated March 18, 2014, relative to the request for authority to destroy obsolete original records for North Hollywood Area, was approved and transmitted to the City Clerk, Records Management Officer.

• The Department’s report, dated March 18, 2014, relative to the request for authority to destroy obsolete original records for Property Division, was approved and transmitted to the City Clerk, Records Management Officer.
