Notes from the November 15, 2016 Weekly Police Commission Meeting

Commissioner President Matt Johnson opened the meeting and a quorum was established.  Commissioner Johnson mentioned this week’s elections created a lot of “anger and anxiety.”  Commissioner Johnson ensured the City of Los Angeles’ safety and security.  He reported on the Office of Inspector General’s Smart Phone App had been implemented.    

The meeting proceeded to the Regular Agenda Items, Department’s Report, dated November 10, 2016.  Commanding Officer of Office of Constitutional Policing and Policy, Police Administrator Arif Alikhan began his report findings, giving a brief overview of his 140 page report on his prevention of bias policing, and the Departments’ commitment of preventing biased policing.  Captain Alan S. Hamilton, Officer in Charge of Recruitment & Employment Division presented on qualifications in acquiring new recruits for the Department.  Commanding Officer Dr. Dr. Luann P. Pannell of Police Training and Education presented Academy curriculum of workforce diversity promoting understanding and reducing of police bias.  Commanding Officer of Internal Affairs Group, Commander Stuart Maislin presented accountability measures in which the Department takes in compared to 5 other local city police department’s.  Police Administrator Arif Alikhan concluded the Department’s report by answering Commissioner Cynthia McClain-Hills’ question of data factors that make up the public’s perception in Los Angeles.
