Home Burglars Caught On Video

Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Area are asking for the public's assistance in identifying residential burglary suspects.

On Friday, Februrary 10, 2017, between 6:05 p.m., and 6:45 p.m., three suspects broke into a residence located in the 1600 block of Marmont Avenue. One suspect knocked on the front door and waited for an answer. When no one answered the door, all three suspects entered through a back door. The suspects went through each room and ransacked them. They took about $40,000 in property, including jewelry and camera equipment before leaving the residence.

The suspects are described as male Blacks, 20-25 years old. They wore hooded sweatshirts and gloves. The suspects fled in a dark colored SUV, possibly a Range Rover.

64-Year-Old Woman Killed By Hit And Run Driver

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public's help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects involved in a hit and run collision that fatally injured Brenda Joyce Scott.

On February 24, 2017 around 5:55 p.m., Southeast Area officers responded to the 9500 block of Hoover Street for a traffic collision. The investigation revealed a silver Jeep Renegade was traveling westbound on 95th Street at a high rate of speed. The Jeep ran a stop sign on Hoover Street and collided with a silver Mercedes Benz, which was traveling southbound on Hoover Street. The impact of the collision caused the Mercedes to run off the road and collide with a residence located on the corner of 95th Street and Hoover Street.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Brenda Scott dead. She was a resident of Carson California.

The driver and passenger of the Jeep fled the scene on foot without identifying themselves and did not render aid to the victim, as required by law. They were last seen fleeing northbound on Hoover Street.

The suspects were both described as female blacks.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender's identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

32-Year-Old Mother Carrying Her Child Is Struck And Killed By Hit And Run Driver

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public's help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a hit and run collision that fatally injured a pedestrian.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2017 around 6:45 p.m., Hollenbeck Area officers responded to the 5200 block of Alhambra Avenue for a traffic collision. The investigation revealed that a collision occurred when the victim, a 32-year-old female Hispanic, was attempting to cross Alhambra Avenue just east of Endicott Street. She was standing in the middle of Alhambra Avenue, waiting for eastbound traffic clear, when she was stuck on her left side by a vehicle traveling westbound on Alhambra Avenue. At the time of collision, the victim was holding her 2-year-old son with her right arm. The child was launched approximately 50 feet and landed near the middle of the roadway. The mother was launched into the eastbound lanes of Alhambra Avenue and then was struck a second time by a 2004 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck. The driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and was questioned and released. The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene without identifying himself or herself and did not render aid to the victim, as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the mother dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The 2-year-old suffered numerous lacerations to his head and was transported to a local area hospital for observation.

The suspect vehicle is described as possibly a Honda SUV with damage to the left side. The investigation is ongoing.

Missing 15-Year-Old Teenager

San Fernando: The family of Katherine Lizzette Solorio and the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Area are asking for the public's help in locating her.

Katherine was last seen on January 16, 2017 around 1:00 p.m., in the City of San Fernando, possibly heading toward LAX, possibly looking for a flight to Las Vegas or Boston. Katherine has been seen in the City of Pacoima.
Katherine is described as a 15-year-old female Hispanic, with brown hair, brown eyes, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 170-180 pounds.

Notes from the February 14, 2017 Weekly Police Commission Meeting

Commissioner President Matt Johnson opened the meeting and a quorum was established.  The meeting proceeded to the Consent Agenda Items, all of which (1A through 1K) were approved with no discussion.  All Regular Agenda Items (2A through 2C) were approved.   

Chief Charlie Beck reported attending the Major Cities Chiefs mid-year conference in Washington, D.C. last week.    Chief Beck mainly attended this mid-year conference for their speakers, United States President Donald Trump and Department of Homeland Security, General John F. Kelly.  On Sunday, February 12, 2017, more than 900 Los Angeles Police Department personnel and their family members participated in the Run to Remember LA, half marathon and 10K run from The Grove through Paramount Studios.  More than 6,000 participants from various police departments around the nation supported this fundraiser over the weekend.  

Currently there are 9,944 sworn officers, 2,785 civilians, 400 reserves and 8,411 cadet’s in the Department.

Class 9-16 Recruit Graduation

February 17, 2017 – In the Academy Gymnasium at the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park, the newest members of the Department proudly stood at attention as they were presented with their diploma of graduation.  Thirty two individuals underwent 24 weeks of intense training which culminated with today’s ceremony in front of Department brass, dignitaries and their family and friends.

60-Year-Old Male Pedestrian Struck and Killed By Hit and Run Driver in Hollenbeck Area

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect involved in a hit and run that fatally injured a 60-year-old man.

On February 20, 2017, just after 12:00 a.m., a possible dark gray BMW was travelling eastbound on Whittier Boulevard just before Spence Street when it collided with the elderly man. The elderly man was walking in the middle of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid to the pedestrian, as mandated by law.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. The identity of the victim is unknown.

Detectives Seek Information Related to a Possible Kidnapping

 

Missing 14-Year-Old Teenager

Los Angeles: The family of Elias Rodriguez and the Los Angeles Police Department's Mission Area are asking for the public's help in locating him.

Elias was last seen on Friday, February 17, 2017 around 1:00 p.m., at the 1000 block of Arroyo Street in the city of San Fernando after leaving his school. His family is extremely concerned. No one has seen or heard from Elias since Friday.

Elias is described as a 14-year-old male Hispanic, with brown hair, brown eyes, 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs approximately 100 pounds.

Possible Kidnapped Victim

Los Angeles: Mission Area detectives are requesting the public's help in identifying and locating the victim of a possible kidnapping.

On February 12, 2017 around 11:00 p.m., at a gas station in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Hubbard Street in Sylmar, witnesses heard a woman screaming for help and checked to see what was happening. Witnesses observed a female Hispanic with her hands and legs tied, screaming for help in a four door dark colored SUV with damage to the driver's side mirror and dark tinted windows.

Suspect-1 is described as a male Hispanic, with grey hair, 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds, and has deep wrinkles in his face.

Suspect -2 is described as a male Hispanic, short dark hair, 20-30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighs about 210 pounds.

Suspect-3 is described as a female Hispanic, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with long dark hair.

The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on the 210 Freeway from Hubbard Street with the victim and the three suspects in the vehicle.
