Commissioner President Steve Soboroff opened the meeting and a quorum was established. All Consent Agenda items were unanimously approved.

Department’s verbal report and discussion relative to the status of the deployment of Body Worn Cameras. No action required.

Inspector General’s Report, dated January 16, 2018 relative to the review of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Field Training Officer Program, as set forth. [BPC #17-0479] was removed from the agenda.

Department’s Report, dated January 10, 2018, relative to the Complaint Process Audit (AD No. 16-024), as set forth. [BPC #18-0034] was approved.

Department’s Report, dated January 10, 2018, relative to the Grant Application and Award for the 2017 Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Program from The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, as set forth. [BPC #18-0037] was approved.

Chief Beck reported the Martin Luther King Jr. annual breakfast changed format this year and was held in Southeast Division, making it more grass roots as it had been previously held at USC. Chief Beck thanked Commissioners Soborff and Matthew Johnson for their attendance. Chef Beck reported the Department’s participation in the Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Southwest Division. Chief Beck provided reports on two officer involved shootings that occurred on Monday January 8 and Thursday January 11. Chief Beck reported there are 10,060 sworn personnel, with 29 in the municipal police for a sworn total of 10,031. This total is two shy of the funded strength of 10,033. There are 2,896 civilian employees, 390 vacancies, about 400 police reserves, 285 specialist volunteers, 55 chaplains, and 1,850 police cadets.
