Department’s Report, dated January 25, 2018, relative to the update on the implementation of the National Best Practices, as set forth. [BPC #18-0054] required no action.
Chief Beck reported on the conclusion of the Crime Fighters Conference last week. Chief Beck thanked the Commissioners and Mr. Tefank for attending. Chief Beck added their attendance bolstered the importance of the meeting, and gave them an opportunity to see LAPD is recognized as a leader in this profession. Chief Beck stated he met with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to discuss how LAPD can work better with the federal government.
Chief Beck provided updated crime statistics, making special note LAPD has recovered 570 guns so far in 2018, which is part of LAPD’s policy to reduce violent crime.
Chief Beck reports 10,088 sworn personnel – the largest number of sworn personnel on payroll during his tenure, and possibly in the Department’s history. Additionally, there are 2,894 civilian personnel, over 400 reserve officers, 271 specialists and 1,850 cadets.
