Notes from the May 8, 2018 Weekly Police Commission Meeting

Commissioner President Steve Soboroff opened the meeting and a quorum was established.

All Consent Agenda items were unanimously approved.

Department’s Report, dated April 26, 2018, relative to the request for payment of reward offers on City Council File Nos. 09-0010-S9 and 10-0010-S20, as set forth. [BPC #18-0153] was approved.

Continued from April 24, 2018, Department’s Report, dated April 18, 2018, relative to Tactics Training Review Committee – Defined – Revised, as set forth. [BPC #18-0143] was approved.

Department’s Report, dated May 3, 2018, relative to the Revolving Training Fund Budget for Fiscal Year 2018-2019, as set forth. [BPC #18-0154] was approved.

Chief Beck stated he has attended several graduations. Chief Beck attended the LAUSD Magnate school program graduation where 124 LAPD cadets graduated. This past Saturday, May 5, at the USC Galen Center, Chief Beck attended the LAPD Cadet Leadership Academy Graduation Ceremony where 500 cadets graduated. This Friday, May 11, there will be a recruit graduation and Chief Beck will be attending graduation services at USC. Chief Beck provided an update on a use of force in Newton Division that occurred on Sunday, May 6, 2018, that resulted in an in-custody death. This is the first use of force that occurs under the new Police Commission revised use-of-force policy. Within 45 days from the day of incident, the Department will prepare a presentation that will be released to the public that will include body worn video, in car video, and as much investigative material that has been compiled up to that time point.
